My Journey...
My life path has included several careers. A native of Chicago, I did my undergraduate studies at Duke University, then moved to San Francisco where I worked as a commodity trader for five years. While that work was exhilarating, I eventually became more interested in issues of spirituality, subsequently entering the University of Chicago and graduating with a doctorate in theology. Over time I discovered that my real passion was working individually with people and their psychological issues. I consequently pursued that interest at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA, where I earned my Ph.D. in clinical psychology. While there, and in subsequent internships and post-doctoral work, I have trained in Psychoanalytic (interpersonal and relational), Cognitive-Behavioral, as well as Analytic (Jungian) therapy modalities. I also have expertise in the areas of addiction and trauma survival.
For 18 years I had a private practice in San Francisco. During that time I was also on the medical staff of Alta Bates Hospital, Berkeley, where I had both inpatient responsibilities and was on-call to the emergency department -- assessing and admitting patients in acute, psychiatric crisis. From 2017 to 2020 I left CA to practice in Chicago - and still retain an Illinois license. In 2021, however, I relocated to Washington state, where I'm also licensed. I conduct teletherapy in Illinois and Washington, as well as those states that have signed onto the PSYPACT Interjurisdictional Agreement.
